The Brain Is Still The Most Fascinating Device Ever Created…
I have studied various things about the brain since I was about the age of 13. I remember always wanting to watch many videos of brain surgeries as well as many documentaries that go into a great deal of study determining reasons why we think as humans etc. They say the more you think you can make yourself exhausted but recently I read a paper by Robert Epstein written for Aeon Magazine last week and it really made me think about some things about technology and the way we learn. It basically states that our brain is not a storage device like some would perceive as a computer. It goes on by stating that you will not find find memory in the brain…there will be no evidence of a sheet of music from memory if looked at through an autopsy. So what does this mean? I took a week to think about it because I know that it takes 24 hours for the brain to actually understand a new theory or information. So I actually gave it a week to throw around…I even looked for any evidence that would argue the theory. I honestly did not come up with anything dramatic. The only thing that did come to mind was to possibly do more research on dream patterns and sleeping. Because clearly our cell memory is something that we may have taken strongly for granted.
As we approach more years of “smart” technology improvements…we should start to do more research on these topics to remind ourselves where we really do store this information, also how the process takes place because I feel it is the part of science that we may be lacking in as we start to develop more robotics to suit our needs that we may not need to think all together as the years go by. Clearly playing God will have it’s limitations on us as humans, and slowly I do believe that we will have to make a choice on how far we are willing to go to forget who we are as a species. I will always be thankful for my insight and faith in God as well as humanity and as I continue to learn that it’s possible that we make ourselves into the enemies of our own planet slowly…I will continue to find a way to do otherwise.
